This Cookie Policy explains how Jerusalem Wallah (“we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies on jerusalemwallah.com (the “Site”). It is published in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, which govern the processing of personal data in India.

1. What Are Cookies and Browser Storage?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. This Site also uses browser local storage:a similar technology that stores small amounts of data directly in your browser without an expiry date, until you clear your browser data. Both cookies and local storage may constitute “personal data” under the DPDP Act where they are capable of identifying you as a Data Principal, directly or indirectly.

2. Our Use of Browser Storage (by Category)

Theme Preference:Essential / Strictly Necessary
Key: jw-theme |  Storage: Browser local storage  |  Duration: Until you clear browser data

We store your selected display theme (light or dark mode) locally so your preference is remembered between visits. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers. Because it is necessary for the Site to function as you have chosen, this storage is placed without requiring additional consent. It does not constitute personal data under the DPDP Act as it cannot be used to identify you.

Reader's Poll Vote:Functional
Storage: Browser local storage + server database  |  Duration: Until you clear browser data (local); indefinitely (server)

When you vote in the Reader's Poll, your vote choice is transmitted to and stored on our servers in our database. We record the option you selected, the poll it belongs to, and a randomly generated session identifier (see below) to prevent duplicate votes. We do not record your name, email address, or IP address as part of the vote record. A note of your vote is also stored in your browser's local storage so you are not prompted to vote again on subsequent visits. Legal basis under the DPDP Act: your voluntary submission of a vote constitutes free, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent to the transmission and storage of your vote data for the purpose of aggregating poll results.

Third-Party Cookies (YouTube / Google)
Set by: Google LLC  |  Storage: Cookies  |  Duration: Varies

Our Site embeds YouTube videos. When you interact with an embedded video, YouTube (operated by Google LLC, a Data Fiduciary in its own right) may set cookies on your device. Jerusalem Wallah is notthe Data Fiduciary for personal data collected by Google through YouTube embeds; Google's own privacy and cookie policies apply. We recommend reviewing Google's Privacy Policy if you have concerns about YouTube's data practices.

3. What We Do Not Do

Jerusalem Wallah does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or any technology designed to follow you across other websites. We do not operate cross-site tracking. We do not sell, share, or transfer any data derived from cookies or browser storage to advertisers or data brokers. The Site carries no advertising.

4. Consent and Withdrawal

Where any browser storage we use constitutes personal data under the DPDP Act, we process it only on the basis of your free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous consent, consistent with Section 6 of the DPDP Act.

You may withdraw consent and remove all locally stored data at any time by:

(a) clearing your browser's local storage and cookies for this site via your browser settings (Settings → Privacy / Clear browsing data); or
(b) contacting our Grievance Officer at support@jerusalemwallah.com to request deletion of any personal data we hold server-side.

Withdrawing consent and clearing local storage may affect site functionality:in particular, your theme preference will not be remembered.

5. Your Rights as a Data Principal (DPDP Act)

To the extent any data processed via cookies or browser storage constitutes personal data under the DPDP Act, you have the following rights: access (Section 11), correction and erasure (Section 12), grievance redressal with a 90-day response (Section 13), and the right to nominate (Section 14). To exercise these rights, contact our Grievance Officer (Section 6 below) or refer to our full Privacy Policy.
